How EngView Automates the Quality Control of Aluminium Profiles

We are interviewing Mrs. Violeta Pisin from EngView Systems — a European-based company specialising in high-tech solutions for the aluminium industry. Mrs. Pisin is the Product Manager for the Scan Fit and Measure (SFM) solutions for quality control and inspection of aluminium profiles. She has over 10 years of experience working with and developing high precision metrology solutions for the profile extrusion industry.   Q1. Mrs. Pisin, could you give us an overview of EngView Systems’ solutions for the aluminium extrusion industry, and how these tools help manufacturers improve quality control, precision, and overall measurement efficiency? At EngView Systems, we focus on developing intelligent measurement solutions that help extrusion plants automate and optimise their quality control processes. Our Scan Fit and Measure (SFM) system is an automated solution designed for precise inspection of aluminium, PVC, and rubber profiles. It performs detailed evaluation of dimensions, wall thickness, radii, and GD&T, delivering consistent results within seconds. The system shortens inspection time while improving precision and repeatability. Combined with our Measurement Data Center (MDC) — a web-based platform for collecting and analysing measurement data — it brings full traceability and transparency to quality control. Plants can generate reports, monitor production trends, and easily share data with customers or management.   Q2. Digitalisation is becoming vital for manufacturers. How do your solutions help aluminium extrusion plants digitalise their quality control process? First of all, everything is tracked. Every measurement an operator performs is logged in the MDC — including who performed it, which tool was used, and when that tool was last calibrated. Even months after a batch has been shipped, if there’s a dispute, the operator can go back to the original scan and recheck dimensions — even without having the physical sample at the plant. By integrating SFM data into internal workflow systems or ERP, manufacturers can connect inspection results with their broader production and quality systems, creating a truly digital, transparent workflow. Talking about digitalisation, we also have a product called mCaliper. It’s designed for manufacturers who still use manual tools like calipers and micrometers on the shop floor. We’ve built an app that automatically records measurements and sends them directly to the MDC — no more notebooks or loose sheets of paper. Quality managers can instantly see what was measured and what the results were. Our reporting system can even provide SPC statistics and deeper analyses.   Q3. The Scan Fit & Measure system has gained attention for simplifying complex measurement tasks. Could you explain how it works in practice and how it streamlines inspection for aluminium profiles? The process is actually very straightforward. The operator places a cut profile sample on the scanner, closes the lid, and presses one button. The system scans the part, compares it with the nominal CAD drawing, and automatically evaluates all required dimensions and tolerances. Results appear instantly in a clear, colour-coded report that shows pass/fail conditions and deviation directions. With the multi-part mode, operators can scan up to five or six profiles at once — ideal for multi-cavity die control. All results are stored automatically in the MDC, ensuring traceability and allowing engineers to review historical data, generate trend reports, or export results for deeper analysis. This not only speeds up inspection but also turns measurement data into actionable insights for production improvement.   Q4. Scan Fit and Measure equipment is known for being easy to learn and use. How accessible is it for users with limited technical experience, and what training or support does EngView provide to help them get started seamlessly? Nowadays, we all want the system to do the heavy work — to calculate, analyse, and show us clear results. Operators need a simple “green or red light” answer because production is running, and if there’s a defect, they are losing money. Ease of use is one of SFM’s greatest strengths. Its one-button operation, intuitive interface, and touch-screen comparator make it accessible even to operators with no CAD experience. We include online installation, calibration, and training with every system delivery. Our engineers guide customers remotely through setup and operation, followed by a three-day training program. We also provide an annual maintenance and support plan that covers recalibration, software updates, and continuous online support — so users stay confident and up to date.   Q5. Sustainability is a growing focus in aluminium manufacturing. How does your system help producers optimise raw material use, minimise waste, and promote resource efficiency? SFM helps sustainability by enabling real-time monitoring of the quality control process. Managers can see operators’ work live and analyse results and trends immediately. Visualising every dimension as a chart helps detect early signs of die wear and prevent defects before they occur. Operators can act on this data and make informed production decisions. By identifying potential issues early, the system helps reduce scrap, save energy, and optimise raw material use.   Q6. As we know, aluminium prices directly influence the extrusion segment. How is the current price environment affecting operations, margins, and market demand? Volatile aluminium prices make efficiency and quality consistency more critical than ever. Manufacturers must ensure every metre produced meets specifications to avoid waste. By automating inspection, improving precision, and integrating data into factory workflows, SFM helps plants maintain productivity and cost control. The result is a stable quality process that protects margins even when raw material prices fluctuate.   Q7. Data-driven manufacturing is becoming the new standard. How do you see analytics and AI shaping process optimisation, quality assurance, and resource management across the extrusion sector? AI and analytics are transforming how quality control works. In our SFM software, AI-powered algorithms automatically detect and remove visual noise — like burrs or dust — from the scanned image. This ensures that only the true profile contour is analysed, leading to far more precise measurements. Over time, as measurement data accumulates, predictive analytics will become possible — allowing plants to anticipate die wear or detect gradual drift in production. Combined with MDC’s real-time data collection and system integration, AI is turning measurement from a simple inspection step into a strategic tool for continuous improvement.
